Calculating Area in Hectares.

Well today was certainly interseting for us to watch you all solving a real world problem: how many hectares is our school property?

First of all: a big congratulations  to the Ultimate Survivors for winning the x2 group point multiplier.

Many of you used a variety of strategies, but in the end, a lack of estimation left the super rock climbers and the UN groups' answers very prone to mistakes in calculation, especially when converting units.

I'd like to hear a little more about your experience, your thoughts, and specific things would change if I gave you the same exercise again.

As this is in English, consider this your English homework as well as your math homework.  Leave at least one comment below.

Child labour in Pakistan, Smoking in Nigeria and Insecurity in Mexico

Today we talked about some of the more global risks that young people face.  The three videos are below if you'd like to take another look.  I would love to hear what you think?  What kind of challenges did we see.  Do you see some solutions?  Just feel free to share your thoughts.  I'd also really like to see someone add a comment about someone else's comment.  Then it's a conversation!

Countable and Uncountable

One of the things that we are working on, is speaking about countable and uncountable nouns correctly.

Use this photo from islcollective.com to help you learn about countable & uncountable foods.  There will be a quiz!

Today we will play a game called "Haiti: Cost of Life".  It is a game about the real challenges which families face every day.  Here is the link:

Please comment on your experience in this game and list the challenges that people face in Haiti.

The Secret to Improving Your Writing

My friend Jon has been working on his masters degree, which is a university degree that you usually receive when you return to university after already graduating with a "bachelors" or "baccalaureate".  A masters is like "level two".  He's actually studying computer science, and is a great writer himself.

What I want to share is one of his assignments, which was completed as this video - which is really about the writing process.  Since we have studied and often use the writing process, I thought you might enjoy this video.

How do people make videos like this?  Can they really draw that fast?
Post a comment about at least one thing you learned from this video.
