Great! Because our last performance was just a warm-up. This time you will measure a more complex shape, calculate the square meters and hectares, and leave a more thoughtful and planned-out comment.
And just to make things interesting, I will offer yet another x2 group point multiplier to the winners of this competition!!
First we estimate and then we plan how are we going to measure first. When me and Eugenia go out we measure the field, but we just measure half of the field, because we gave our toy tape measure to the other group. We really didn't have a lot of time, so we did not find the answer.I wish the next time we can use a real tape measure. After me and Eugenia measure it we find out the answer and our answer is 285000m2 and 28.5 hectares. The answer is more closer to US group they got 5626.8208m2,0.56268208 hectares,2603m2 and 0.2603 hectares. The real answer is 4473m2 and 0.4473 hectares.

I thought that today's weather is better than Friday. And Tr.Derek was watching us outside.First we estimated and than we plan it but at the same time, we didn't have a measuring tapes.Later,we got it!But we still don't know how to do it.The times over!We collected all our answer.I thought this challenges is more easier than Friday one.The winner was the US group the answer are 4473m2 and 0.4473h.If we had another game,I will try more creative way!Next time,I hope it's a regular shapes, please!

i really liked the activity, it was amazing. even though it was hot outside, but i still enjoyed it. Owen and i used steps to measure the area of the school. each big steps was counted as one meter, i really felt sorry foe Owen because he was really tired for doing all the big steps. after that we used our arms to measure, then our arms got sore and went back to the big steps again. Owen and i thought that it was really hard to measure the school area without a measuring tape. after the effort we did we got the closest estimate and won the multiplier. Beryll
ReplyDeleteToday teacher told us to measure school again , this time my group mate is Chloe , Brandon and Me , first Chloe us her comb to estimate how many little thing is it , and teacher let us to go out and measure , but this time's ruler it just had 160cm = 1m60cm
ReplyDeleteand we just measure a place and last we use our finger figure out what is the perimeter , and we multiply the length together last we will get the answer , but we need to change the unit and we will have the m2 and hectare .
At last our group WIN !!!!!
And other try very hard to
It Fun !!!!!

Deletetoday we mesure in the almast the same thing as before, but this tiis hader and smaller and the size is not different and the shape is different too. and last time is S.R.C win the
ReplyDeletetimes 2and this time is U.S wins times 2

I think it's very fun , because I don't know how big is the school , but in my gloup have Ale gorden and me and they don't no how to do so they say they don't whant do so don't have have people can help me\(+_+)/
ReplyDeleteThis time we "did" estimate first and I thought it's about 1~1.8 hectares , then Tina started speaking in her mouth and she counted by herself and I couldn't do any thing! But when I went down the stairs and thought that Tr.Derek had told the cross country ran people that a lab was 200 meters so we estimate the rectangle's one side(the small side) is a half smaller than the big one and we want to start measuring, when I look at the ground, the black thing seem to be useful so we try to use the black thing to measure, but at last time's up,so we use Tina's answer,I think this time our answer were closer because we first estimate, but my pencils cap fell in the gutter. That was bad~ The big challenge was there was there was no tape and only 2 small ones! If we had more, we could maybe get closer! I love it!

First of all, congratulations to the Ultimate Survivors! Now all the groups have a x8 multiplier. Tiffany and I plan to measure the soccer field first, then the "Starbucks", and then lastly, the tiny square between it. There were only two tape measures, but after five minutes, it was gone. Not the real gone, but because we had to share with everyone. Everything should have gone right, but we ran out of time. Thirty minutes sounds like a lot. But when I was finishing up my awesome idea, guess what? Time ran out!

I think this activity was so fun and also a little bit bard because our group have a fight when we measure but last me and Ale measure how many trees were at the area and multliply 160x...... and the answer came out, and me and Ale think that was good but when teacher write the answer the answer was not the answer what we measure I feeled sad because we can't get the multiplt but if next time we have the activity like this i will work hard and le it couracte.

Today we went out to measure the m2 and the h. First we estimate and they we measure it. Our m2 was 18100 and our h was 1.81. The sun was very big and it was hot. And we work better this time. But the winner was U.S. We will win next time and it is very fun!

DeleteYippee! Hooray! Today, the Ultimate Survivors won! Technically speaking, half of the Ultimate Survivors won. Because today, Tr. Derek split us into half, so we'd have more eggs in the basket. Me, James and Brandon were a group, so Owen and Beryll were a group. I decided to use my comb needles to estimate the sides. First, I used the map and measured how many comb needles would one side be. Second, we actually went outside and used the "toy" tape measure to measure one side of the building, which also equaled 9 comb needles, which also was 24.2 metres. Third, we went in and divided 24.2 by 9 and equaled 2.68 metres, which meant 1 comb needle was 2.68 metres on the map. Fourth, we calculated all the sides using comb needles. Fifth, we cut the shape up into three pieces and calculated each piece. Finally, we added all the pieces together and hey presto! The answer! The answer was 5626.8208m2=0.56268208 hectares. The real answer was 4437m2=0.4437 hectares, close to our answer just not with all the rubbish behind the decimal. Next time, I hope to do a way easier shape, normal shapes please! Overall, I think this experience was amazingly exciting and anticipatingly fun!

It was harder today because we only had two toy tape measures instead of proper ones, so we used a big step as a meter and we walked over the places we need to measure. I think it was really exiting because the groups were even more and there is also a multiplier reward. This time we, the Ultimate Survivors won the x2 multiplier, and we were super happy. But there were two groups in one main group, and it was the other half group that got won, so I guess we should work harder.
ReplyDeleteOwen
When the teacher told us that we're gonna do the math again. our group was super excited because we really need that multiplier because we only had a X4 at first our group used a comb and measure one side and the time is out,in the end we had a mistake by adding those numbers but we notice it and we multiply the numbers. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! WE WON!!!AND WE GOT THE MULTIPLIER!!!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S THE ANSWER WAS 4473M2 and 0.4473hectares and we got 5626.8208m2! and 0.56268208hectares!!! WOOHOO
